Working Together for a Sustainable Future in Seychelles
We had the opportunity to present at the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Conference in Seychelles on 30th-31st August 2016. The conference aimed at bringing stakeholders from various backgrounds together to discuss the way forward for ESD. This conference, coordinated by the Environmental Education Association of Seychelles (EEAS), provided an opportunity to relate what is happening in Seychelles with the priorities of the Global Action Program for ESD launched in 2015 by UNESCO.
All the speakers from the morning answering questions
The conference proved an excellent platform for us to learn about the various efforts put in by local organisations towards a sustainable future. Topics of discussion included sustainable development, the role of education in sustainable development, tools and practices for effective education and identifying information gaps. It was also a great opportunity for us to network and get acquainted with people working with the other conservation NGOs on the island.
Plenty of activities and informative stalls
We made a presentation about our philosophy of work and the kind of work we do here in the Seychelles. The presentation was very well received and we had plenty of school teachers who wanted to know if we would be willing to conduct workshops for their students. They were very pleased that we were able to offer an opportunity for their students to learn about marine life in the field rather than from a book.
Having been able to connect with so many educators, we hope that we will have a better reach into the community and conduct some fun workshops for students. We also hope to strengthen the connections we’ve made with other organisations and work in collaboration to develop some inspiring projects to move towards healthier oceans.
