Brighton Dolphin Project: Marine Experts Talks – Community Beach Cleans

Community Beach Cleans in Brighton

The Brighton Dolphin Project, a new initiative launched by the World Cetacean Alliance, aims to improve awareness about the importance of local marine ecosystems and species in the Brighton area. The project aims to achieve this through educational experiences and outreach events. This summer, we will be hosting a series of Marine Experts Talks, where people from different organisations will come to the Discovery Centre to discuss their pioneering work in marine conservation.

Scientists have predicted that there will be more plastic than fish by 2050, and about 8 million tons of plastic are dumped into our oceans every year. Blue Planet 2 has certainly raised awareness about the effects of dumping litter in our oceans, and one local initiative has had success in removing litter from the beaches of Brighton.

In 2017, Pier 2 Pier Beach Clean removed 800kg of litter from Brighton Beach by hosting fun mass litter picks between West and Palace Pier. This year, they have cleaned over 600 beaches and aim to get 2,000 people involved on beach cleans. We will be joined by Amy, from Pier to 2 Pier Beach Clean, who will be giving an exciting talk on their work in Brighton in reducing the amount of litter found on our local beaches.
