I have to confess I’m not just enjoying this #plasticchallenge I’m loving it. In fact, if I’m honest I’m quite addicted to it. When something makes so much sense it’s not hard to make the tricky choices or put that extra time in to find a solution. Here’s some of my efforts this week. It did involve a little pre-planning and did mean an actual trip to the supermarket (online supermarket shopping is not conducive to #plasticfree life), the high street as well as the local market but supporting local shops and finding some easy #plasticfree solutions made it worth while.

Toiletries:

Lush have a wide range of shampoo/conditioner bars, soap paper and actual soap (like we use to use!)

Food shopping:

I went to the supermarket for a few supplies. Not 100% plastic free (butter, cheese, beer) and the chocolate had foil which can’t always be recycled but they did let me use my own containers for the meat (but not for cheese weirdly). Found loose fruit & veg but a lot had small plastic stickers on each item…grrrrr…

Bread in produce bag

Bread in produce bag

I asked the bakery in Marks & Spencers to give me one of the breads that had yet to be put in their ½ paper ½ plastic bags. My lovely produce bag then came into action.

Oils, vinegars & spirits plastic free

Oils, vinegars & spirits plastic free

At the shopping mall I came across this place where you can get oils and vinegars and even (slightly dubious looking) cocktails and liquors in glass bottles (or bring your own)

It actually works! There are lots of recipes for homemade deodorant online and I got to reuse my old plastic deodorant packaging too.
