Marine Educators At Four Seasons Resort Seychelles at Desroches Island

WiseOceans Marine Discovery Programme at Four Seasons Resort Seychelles at Desroches Island

The newly opened Four Seasons Resort Seychelles at Desroches Island is located on Desroches Island; part of the Amirantes group in the outer Seychelles islands. This coralline island is just over 5km long and 1km wide at its widest point and is the perfect destination for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.

WiseOceans is proud to have been introducing resort guests to the wonders that can be found under the water around the island since it’s opening in early 2018. Our aim is to spread awareness and passion for the oceans and the protection of what lives within them, and our Marine Educators on Desroches are in the perfect location, surrounded by breath-taking marine life, which aids them in increasing knowledge, understanding and enthusiasm for the oceans.

Discover the marine life of the Seychelles on WiseOceans’ guided snorkels

The fringing coral reefs and seagrass beds that surround Desroches are the perfect place to learn to snorkel and come face to face with the incredible marine life that calls this crystal-clear water home. Our base at the Discovery Centre on Sunset Beach is in an ideal location to inspire guests about the wildlife of Desroches; here, guests of all ages can come along and find out more about the fascinating flora and fauna around the island. Our passion is sharing our knowledge of marine life and there is no better way to learn than to get in the water and see for yourself. We offer guided snorkelling for all abilities here; whether you are a non-swimmer or a born fish out of water!

The diversity of life around Desroches island is incredible, and you will not be disappointed by taking a stroll along the beach, or even better, getting into the water. Typical sightings include colourful reef fish, such as butterflyfish, surgeonfish and angelfish, several species of ray, and sea turtles that can be seen cruising around the seagrass beds surrounding the island. The island is of high importance to many nesting animals, including endangered green and hawksbill turtles which use the sandy beaches fringing the entire island to lay their eggs, and a variety of seabirds, including the wedge-tailed shearwater which creates burrows in the ground to rear its chicks.

Our resident WiseOceans Marine Educators are a full time source of knowledge and inspiration for guests and staff; there to educate, enthuse, and engage.  WiseOceans Marine Educators inspire guests to try snorkelling and diving, give confidence to tentative or nervous snorkellers, and hold lively conversations with excited guests about what they have seen in the beautiful waters surrounding the Resort.
