About the organisation
The Institute for Marine Research is a grassroots non-profit organisation that aims to conduct long-term and fine-scale research on coastal marine ecosystems, using this scientific evidence to educate, transform, and encourage locally-led marine conservation strategies within the Philippines.
About the role
- Conduct all lecturing and underwater training components for IMR Research Assistants (RAs) with quality, integrity and accuracy to ensure uniformity of all data collected as part of the Dauin long-term reef monitoring project.
- Conduct routine administrative tasks related to attainment and input of IMR data
- Assist in the attainment of data for all underwater research projects carried out by the IMR and collaborating researchers
- Conduct data analysis using EventMeasure, CPCe, ReefCloud, AgiSoft and ImageJ softwares
- Conduct SCUBA training from Open Water to Divemaster
- Create underwater content to be used for social media, outreach campaigns and reef reporting
- Attend weekly staff meetings, ensuring to achieve weekly goals
Requirements
Essential:
- Bachelor of Marine Science (or equivalent)
- PADI Dive Instructor (or equivalent)
- Underwater photographer
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
- Experience leading/assisting variety of underwater research projects
- Strong communication skills, comfortable speaking in front of a large audience
- Previous experience working within coral reef ecology
- Ability to work as part of a dynamic and multi-cultural team
Desired:
- Masters degree in Marine Science (or equivalent)
- Previous experience working within an NGO
- Previous experience with EventMeasure, ReefCloud and AgiSoft programs
