Dolphin and Wildlife Watching Guide/Skipper

SeaMôr Wildlife and Dolphin Watching Boat Trips are looking for enthusiastic and hardworking individuals to fill the positions offered during the coming season. The positions require guiding on the wildlife watching boats as wildlife guides and also assisting with sales and marketing of the trips. The role would also involve working in our small but busy take-away café on days that we don’t go to sea and also in our gift shop. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn some great skills such as boat handling, general seamanship, enhancing your public speaking skills, and hopefully help inspire the next generation of marine biologists. This position will start at the beginning of July until September.

The trips run from New Quay in Cardigan Bay, which is home to the largest population of bottlenose dolphins in the UK. Harbour porpoises, grey seals and a variety of sea birds are also among the many animals that can be viewed on the trips.

What skills and experience will you gain?

  • Public speaking and guiding experience
  • Crewing on a commercial passenger boat
  • Boat handling and general seamanship

Essential requirements

  • Fluent spoken English
  • Interest in marine wildlife and boating
  • Flexibility and the ability to work outdoors
  • Good communication skills
  • Good customer service skills

Desirable requirements

  • Powerboat level 2, commercially endorsed (with this ticket you may be able to do some skippering after a bit of training)
  • Previous experience as a guide, either on land or sea
  • Previous experience of working in a café or retail environment
