Join us at Shark and Marine Research Institute and have the experience of a lifetime! Be involved with groundbreaking research studying great white sharks and other shark species near Cape Town, South Africa. Contribute to ocean conservation, and have the unique opportunity to be trained as a marine research assistant.
You will participate in our white shark dorsal fin identification study, learn how to analyse white shark fins, learn ethical handling and angling of other sharks, take part in our shark tagging trips and assist with data management. You will also assist with educating clients on our cage-diving tourist boat and have opportunities to come face to face with these magnificent apex predators.
Our beautiful, comfortable volunteer house is located in Kleinbaai roughly a two-minute drive or a ten-minute walk from the harbour where we launch. It is a home away from home with all necessary amenities. There are magnificent coastal and mountain views and a host of marine and mountain outdoor activities for you to explore in your free time.
