We rebuild tropical fisheries with coastal communities
Blue Ventures develops locally led approaches to marine management that benefit people and nature alike. By listening and responding to basic needs, we design our models to catalyse and sustain marine conservation, unlocking the potential of coastal communities to manage their resources. We work in places where the ocean is vital to local cultures and economies, and are committed to advancing the rights of small-scale fishers throughout the coastal tropics.
Summary Job Description
Blue Ventures’ approach is grounded in listening and responding to the needs of coastal communities. We have developed a range of models that help to reimagine the relationship between people and conservation, with each approach designed to benefit and empower communities through practical efforts to protect the ocean. The diverse solutions we have developed are grounded in a robust theory of change and underpinned by a rigorous monitoring and evaluation framework; yielding a rich body of empirical data and experience. We aim to share these experiences, successes, challenges and ways of working by documenting these experiences through accessible resources which can be shared, understood and used by a range of audiences.
We are currently recruiting a knowledge development manager to lead the development of a range of products, from peer-reviewed papers to paper-based toolkits and dedicated multi-lingual video-based training resources. This post will play a pivotal role in strengthening our knowledge development and outreach process, drawing on robust data collection from our network of field sites and partner organisations. The role will support field practitioners and technical support teams in documenting their work. They will work closely with our digital and communications team to reach both internal and external audiences.
The position will provide a range of support to Blue Ventures’ field sites and programmes, including our work to support partner organisations. Reporting jointly to the Conservation Programmes Director and Outreach Director this is a full-time role based in Blue Ventures’ Bristol office in the UK, with regular travel to work closely with overseas colleagues, partners, field teams and communities.
You’ll be able to proactively engage a range of different audiences with your writing, and be comfortable taking a project all the way from an idea to a variety of published outputs depending on the context. You’ll be as comfortable working on solo projects as steering projects with multiple contributors. You will have demonstrated experience in coaching and mentoring people and be as excited by the success and achievement of others as by your own achievements.
