RAJA AMPAT EXPEDITION 2019

Indo Ocean Project is currently seeking assistant researchers for our liveaboard and eco tour in Raja Ampat, Indonesia in January 2019. Indo Ocean Project and Pirates Bay Cruises have partnered up to offer 1 round trip expedition departing from Sorong (Raja Ampat, West Papua). This is a 10-day liveaboard expedition surveying the Raja Ampat National Park in an action packed adventure of a lifetime. Make your next holiday count and take part in an ongoing research project focused on marine megafauna, that spans the country of Indonesia. With a minimum of 3 research dives scheduled per day, workshops, and land excursion, this is an action packed 10 day adventure to some of the world’s most pristine reefs.

Program Information
Raja Ampat, the “Four Kings” in English, is considered as the richest area for corals and marine biodiversity on earth as it lies right in the middle of the coral triangle. It has a worldwide reputation for the best scuba diving.
It is a diving Eden! Raja Ampat is 40,000 Km2 archipelago located off the Papua coast, offer magnificent seabed’s. A combination of emerald seas, lagoon, limestone islands, secret passages, mangroves and wild forest provide an outstanding environment. Scarcely inhabited or visited, the park always seems to be explored for the very first time.
Manta rays, sharks, jacks, shoals of mackerels, and schooling tropical fish come to discover the coral triangle, one of the richest area for biodiversity on earth. Truly the last frontier in the tropical underwater world.
As an assistant researcher you will be assisting and living alongside experienced marine biologists, dive profesionals, and boat captains. Our dives are dedicated to baited remote under water video (BRUV) data for Dr. Mark Bond’s research at Florida International University, survey diving for Indo Ocean Project, and photographic identification of sharks and rays. We make every dive count! With over 29 scheduled dives over 10 days there is never a dull moment.

About The Boat
Your seaworthy home for 10 days is the Lambo, a traditional Indoneisan wooden sailing boat built in Sulawesi in 2009. She is completely equipped for SCUBA diving with compressor, tanks, and dive equipment on board. The boat comes fully staffed with captain, cruise director, dive master, cook, and engineer, all working to make your trip a memorable one.

Prerequisites:
Due to the nature of the dives, all applicants must hold an ADVANCED OPEN WATER DIVER* certification or higher from any internationally recognized certification company before the program start date.
Strong swimming skills
Comfortable with shared living quarters aboard a small sailing vessel
*Don’t have the right qualifications yet? Join our project headquarters in Nusa Penida for 1-2 weeks prior to your program date to complete you dive certifications or refresh your diver skills. For more information contact info@indooceanproject.org*

Program Fees
Projects like ours rely on the generosity of our partners and participants to develop and grow. In order for us to create an awesome adventure for you we require a tuition to cover your expenses while on program. Because of the donations from our local partners we are able to keep the cost low while covering all your needs so you can focus on your training and work during your time.
Total costs per person is $3,150.00 USD (includes all taxes)

International or domestic flights (but Pirates Bay Cruises are happy to help organize your flights to Sorong)
Dive equipment (available for rental for $30/day from Pirates Bay Cruises)

In country spending money
Indonesian VISA’s
Travel or Dive Insurance
crew tips (suggested tip around $150 USD per person)
Application Process
We have limited spaces available on the boat. We work on a first come first serve basis after acceptance and deposit is confirmed.
