Jyodee with the Boathouse team

It’s been an amazing month since I joined the WiseOceans Team. Working at the Four Seasons Mauritius at Anahita is like having a dream come true. The most rewarding part of our job is sharing with guests, especially kids, our passion for the marine environment and our endeavour to protect it. It is so great when guests leave our picnic table feeling happy with the tiniest bit of knowledge about the ocean and its wonderful marine life.

The warm welcome I received on my first day at the resort was so great that I instantly felt part of the resort team. The boathouse, it goes without saying, is the best team to work with. Friendly and helpful, it is a great place to come to work everyday.

The first few days of work involved mostly getting around the tasks that we have to do as marine educator and meeting with all the different staff members at the resort. Fellow Marine Educator Rick has been very helpful in explaining and taking me through all our daily tasks. After that, it was time to jump in the water. I remember my first reef discovery snorkel was so astonishing. The boat trip itself is such a feast to the eyes, with the turquoise blue water of the ocean and the beautiful mountain range view of the south-east coast of Mauritius. Eau Bleu, the reef where we bring guests snorkelling, is such an amazing site with so much to see and discover. Not a day has been the same on the reef. The part I love best is taking kids on the reef snorkel. It is just amazing to engage with them and how fascinated they are when we are snorkelling.

Apart from the reef, we are very lucky to have really nice mangrove patches around the resort, where we can take the guests. It is indeed a different experience, kind of a little adventure to swim through the mangrove channels, and to realise how much there is to see in the mangroves. I also had the opportunity to assist in the setup of our new Reef Restoration Project. I was so happy to have planted my first coral fragment!

It is hard to believe that it’s been a month already since I have been working with WiseOceans. I am really looking forward to the upcoming days where we will take more guests to discover our marine biodiversity, involve the resort staff in our marine world and raise more awareness on the protection of the marine environment!
